The Care and Feeding of Introverted Students in the Online Lesson World

Writer's picture: Dr. Heather NelsonDr. Heather Nelson

Today I did a live video on Facebook discussing things to consider when working with introverted students, especially online. There are five main points:

  1. Embrace the awkwardness of silence! Allow time for internal processing.

  2. Be aware of the space your students are occupying on their side of the screen.

  3. Give them a little bit of space after a lesson or performance to decompress.

  4. Bring creativity into the lessons.

  5. Don't try to fix your dear introverted students. They are fine!

I'd love to hear your thoughts. Are you an introvert? What do you agree or disagree with? Are you an extrovert? What is different about working with extroverted students? Share your thoughts with me!
